Ndatara’s CEO Dr. Abisai Konstantinus will be a participant in this year’s MOBILIZE Conference. MOBILIZE is the annual sustainable transport summit of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), which brings together urban transport and development practitioners alongside world-class researchers to celebrate best practices and accelerate implementation of sustainable transport projects. You can learn more about the mission of MOBILIZE here.
Dr. Konstantinus will be a panelist in the session on Freight Transport. The session will be held virtually on Monday, October 26 from 16:30 – 18:00 PM (CAT). See details here.
In previous iterations of the conference, freight transportation has been only a limited part of the agenda. Where it has been addressed, discussion has primarily focused on managing freight’s negative externalities (e.g. collision risk, air pollution, etc.). This year’s session will promote a broad understanding of why goods movement occurs, why it is necessary to support community life, and how it relates to economic development. In addition to these basics, the session will address how the public sector can integrate freight in planning and work together with the industry, as well as share city logistics and other types of solutions to minimize negative impacts while maintaining critical flows of goods.
Dr. Konstantinus will particularly discuss the factors that go into stakeholder decision making about goods movement (e.g. freight mode choice) and to discuss the relationship between freight and economic development especially in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
